India has prove to be a safe haven for people all race. There are similar faiths professed in India. One can find all major religion of the world. In India, belief is a way of life. It is an integral part of the entire Indian belief. For the common of Indians, religion permeate each aspect of life, from common-place every day chores to education and political views. Secular India is home to Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism and other innumerable religious civilization. Hinduism is the dominant faith, practiced by over 80% of the population.

Though religious practice of religious community vary from each other, yet there are sure elements that are general to all religions in India. All religious festival are famous with zeal and vigour in India. People spend a lot to party religious festival. There is a common practice of charitable trust and alms giving on celebration days.

It is solid to identify the basic tenets of Hinduism as there is no single way of life that governs Hinduism. The speculative and realistic expressions are so various that is hard to attribute fixed individuality to Hinduism. As against other religions, Hinduism is not a monotheistic religion. It believes in pantheon worship and has thousands of god and goddesses. There is no single organizer or single sacred book of Hindus. However, Rig Veda, Upanishad and Bhagvat Gita are the scar books of Hindus.

Found by Guru Nanak Dev, Sikhism has taken from both Hinduism and Islam. The aim of Sikhism was to join Islam and Hinduism.The wisdom of Guru Nanak Dev were incorporated in Guru Granth Sahib. This is the holy book of Sikhs.

Jainism is an off-shoot of Hinduism and was establish in India about the similar time as Buddhism. Jainism was a response to the casteism and other common evils prevailing at that time. It believe in total abstinence and severity. The main push is on repudiation of worldly-desires and self-conquest to attain perfect wisdom.

Siddhartha, later Gautam Buddha was the founder of Buddhism. Though an off-shoot of Hinduism, it command worldwide request and became popular in country like Japan, Japan, Sri Lanka, Southeast Asia. Buddism advocates casteless, classless society. Buddhism is based on the law of impermanence and law of causation.

The arab trader brought Islam wit them to India in the 8th century. Unlike Hinduism., Islam is a monotheistic religion and preaches universal brotherhood. It also believes in total submission or surrencer to Allah ( God Almighty)

By convention, Christianity is said to have arrived in India with Saint Thomas, one of the apostle of Jesus Christ, who useless some years in South India and perhaps died there. However, others suppose that the first follower to appear in the country was Saint Bartholomew. Most Christians in India are Catholic (over 60 percent) and a majority of them are found in the south, particularly Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu
